Free-kick for Roma as Defrel is pulled to ground by Denis Suarez as he attempts a shot. Kolarov stands over the ball but curls over the bar.
89'
Remember that glimmer of hope Roma had? It's gone again. 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico against this Barcelona side seems impossible. A tough lesson for the Italians tonight.
87'
L. Suárez has scored a goal for Barcelona!
GOAL! It's another scrappy goal but Suarez finally nets his first Champions League goal of the season. Denis Suarez's ball into the middle isn't dealt with and it falls kindly for the Uruguayan, who strikes home.
86'
K. Strootman gets yellow.
Strootman grabs onto Messi from behind, pulling the Argentine to ground and earning himself a yellow card.
85'
Denis Suárez enters the game and replaces Andrés Iniesta.
Final change for Barcelona and Iniesta, as expected, doesn't complete the full 90. Denis Suarez takes his place.
83'
André Gomes enters the game and replaces Sergi Roberto.
Second change of the night for Barcelona, who replace Sergi Roberto with Andre Gomes.
82'
A glimmer of hope then for Roma. 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico would be incredibly difficult but it wouldn't be impossible. They've deserved more this evening and this gives them something to cling to, as long as they hold firm defensively.
80'
E. Džeko has scored a goal for Roma! Assist by D. Perotti.
Perotti has shone this evening and he deserves a goal. He'll have to settle for an assist for now though.
GOAL! A lifeline for Roma! Perotti again brilliant as he plays the ball into the middle, where Dzeko takes one touch before slotting past Ter Stegen. This time the German had no response.
79'
Save again! Ter Stegen again with a stunning save, as Perotti curls an effort towards the far top corner but is prevented by the Barcelona stopper.
Minute
Description
78'
WHAT A SAVE! Ter Stegen loses the ball, it's lofted into the middle for Defrel and he looks destined to score with his first touch of the game. However, the German keeper superbly redeems himself with a diving save.
77'
G. Defrel enters the game and replaces D. De Rossi.
Third and final change for Roma, as De Rossi is replaced by Defrel.
76'
Corner for Roma, after Perotti sees a shot ddeflected behind, and the visitors swiftly earn another one. This time ter Stegen easily clutches onto the ball.
74'
Barcelona keeping the ball with ease as there is no pressure from Roma, a stark contrast to how the Serie A outfit initially approached the game. It really hasn't gone their way this evening.
72'
S. El Shaarawy enters the game and replaces A. Florenzi.
Second change of the evening for Roma, who introduce El Shaarawy in place of Florenzi.
71'
A very flat atmosphere here now, with the game certainly over and the fans haven't really been in the mood all night. It almost feels like a pre-season game.
69'
Roma really have had the stuffing knocked out of them, which isn't too surprising. The danger is that it could get worse as there's still plenty of time to play.
67'
It's not Iniesta who's replaced in midfield though as Busquets, who had question marks over his fitness heading into the game, is replaced by Paulinho.
66'
Paulinho enters the game and replaces Sergio Busquets.
Further changes certainly afoot and Iniesta is more than likely going to make way soon, as he doesn't finish 90 minutes often these days.
64'
Far from a vintage Barcelona performance and, worryingly for Roma, there's a lot for Ernesto Valverde to work on in the next week.
62'
That Perotti chance in the opening minute of the second half now looks even more crucial, he'll certainly have a sleepness night tonight thinking about what might have been.
60'
M. Gonalons enters the game and replaces L. Pellegrini.
First substitution of the game sees Pellegrini replaced by Gonalons.
Roma need a miracle now. An away goal would give them a chance of turning the tie around in the second-leg but you have to feel that Barcelona now have one foot firmly in the semi-final draw, despite the fact we still have two hours of football to play in the tie.
59'
Piqué has scored a goal for Barcelona!
At one goal down, Roma had at least a chance to turn the game around, especially with the second-leg to come. If they're to have any chance now, an away goal is needed.
GOAL! Game over! Messi fantastically switches the play to Suarez, who cuts onto his right inside the box but sees his shot saved by Alisson. It fell on a plate to Pique though, who tucked home with ease.
57'
It's cruel for it to be another own goal but the corner routine on the far side was brilliant. Messi and Rakitic combined superbly to find room to fire a dangerous delivery into the middle, which in the end results in what's likely to be a decisive goal in the tie.
55'
K. Manolas is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOAL! I was just about to say Barcelona are yet to get out of second gear but they've doubled their advantage. Rakitic and Messi work a short corner routinely brilliantly, with the former driving a ball across the six yard box. Umtiti hits the post and the rebound is sent into his own net by Manolas.
53'
SAVE! Messi wiggles into space and shifts onto his weaker right foot, firing a shot straight at Alisson.
52'
Barcelona really do look like they need a change and they're playing very centrally at the moment. The 4-4-2 formation doesn't quite suit them and bringing on Dembele would be a good call from Valverde.
50'
POST! Roma almost gifted a goal! Umtiti doesn't deal with the ball and Florenzi nicks it off him, cutting a cross onto the post from a very tight angle. However, it had just gone out of play. Certainly encouraging signs for the visitors though.
49'
Almost another glorious opening for Roma, this time from the left flank as Kolarov floats a dangerous cross towards the back post but it escapes his teammates.
47'
What a mess! Alba strikes at goal with his right, Alisson makes a mess of it and Suarez puts the rebound over the bar.
46'
MISS! A glorious opportunity for a Roma equaliser! It's whipped into the far post from Florenzi, where Perotti has room but he heads wide of the mark.
45'
KICK-OFF! Back underway at Camp Nou, where Roma get us started and now attack to the right.
44'
A. Kolarov gets yellow.
First yellow card of the evening is issued to Kolarov, after he catches Messi from behind.
42'
Dangerous position for Roma but it did look to be a bit too close. Pellegrini elects for a low drive but it's blocked and cleared.
41'
Huge moment! Pellegrini tumbles to ground after a foul from Umtiti and it's right on the edge of the penalty box. The replays show the decision was correct but wow, that is extremely close.
40'
It felt like a goal was coming but that's an extremely cruel way for Barcelona to take the lead, a complete fluke and hopefully not one that takes the sail out of Roma's sails.
38'
D. De Rossi is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
Brilliant yet again by Roma to prevent Messi, this time diving into a fine tackle right at the last. The Argentine looked poised to fire home but the visiting defence has other ideas.
GOAL! Extremely cruel for Roma! Iniesta tries to feed through Messi and De Rossi dives in to intercept, inadvertently diverting the ball past an outstretched Alisson and into the far corner.
36'
Credit where it's due for Roma, who have done fantastically to quell Barcelona's stellar attack this evening. The hosts aren't getting any room to breathe and Messi is being swarmed by defenders when he picks up the ball.
34'
Barcelona are still half asleep, Ernesto Valverde won't be happy at all. All it takes is one moment of magic, as it feels like the game could open up at any moment.
32'
I'm sure Roma will be delighted with this and would bite your hand off to take this result back with them to Italy. An away goal would be incredibly valuable though.
30'
It really does feel like we're on the verge of something. Roma showing intent, Barcelona with flashes of brilliance. Still we wait for a decisive opening for either side.
28'
Better! Barcelona with a slick, smooth move to find an opening. Messi flicks the ball behind to Suarez, who drives across goal towards the far post but is prevented by a fine save from Alisson.
26'
Strootman clips a ball over the top to Bruno Peres down the right but the Barcelona defence copes. Florenzi and the Brazilian are linking up well down the far side but the final ball has been lacking so far.
24'
The Champions League last night was full of drama, the other game this evening appears to be on the same path. So far, it seems we've drawn the short straw. It's yet to really get going at Camp Nou.
22'
Taking the ball off Messi is an impossible task. He keeps going, trying to work his way into the box, and is eventually tackled. It falls to Rakitic though, who fires an effort off a defender and behind for a corner. Unfortunately, it comes to nothing.
20'
Encouraging opening for Roma but Barcelona have shown signs of their true ability. The visitors cannot afford to rest on their laurels but will be pleased with proceedings so far.
18'
OFF THE POST! Something from nothing for Barcelona! A corner bounces around and isn't dealt with, falling for Rakitic and he drives a low ball across the face of goal. It doesn't find a touch from an attacker but almost doesn't need it, rebounding off the far post.
17'
Really disappointing from Barcelona so far as, barring a few flashes of excitement, they've been extremely flat.
15'
A beautifully weighted through ball from Umtiti to Alba but brilliant defending puts it behind for a corner. Batcelona go short, trying to work into the box on the opposite side, but are being well matched by Roma so far.
13'
Dzeko is seeing a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges but he is having to drop fairly deep to pick up possession. Roma are moving the ball around brilliantly but they'd certainly be better if the Bosnian could find space between the defenders.
11'
SAVE! Alisson called into action for the first time this evening, as Messi shifts the ball onto his left and strikes from distance. A fierce effort but straight at the Brazilian, who gobbles up the ball at the second time of asking.
10'
A big moment as Roma break, Dzeko running into the box and tumbling to ground under pressure from Umtiti. There was barely any contact though and the referee is right to wave away the protests.
8'
OFFSIDE! Warning signs for Roma as a swift attacking move from Barcelona sees Iniesta play through Suarez, who tucks home into the far corner. However, the offside flag is raised.
7'
Any concerns that Roma would sit back to soak up pressure and focus on defending are out the window already, as the visitors are showing plenty of intent. They've put Barcelona under a lot of pressure when they don't have the ball and are trying to work into space when they do take possession.
5'
Iniesta clips a ball over the top to Messi in space but the offside flag is raised. A sloppy start from the hosts, with the atmosphere being full of expectation rather than excitement.
3'
Not the best of starts from Barcelona, encouraging Roma to push forward, but it's yet to fall for the Italians in an attacking aspect. The hosts are pinging the ball around as we've all come to expect now though.
1'
KICK-OFF! We're underway in Catalonia! Barcelona get us started, attacking to the right in the first half.
Roma, meanwhile, are into the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in a decade. Last time they visited Catalonia, they were hammered 6-1 in a group stage clash and they carry the burdern of never reaching the final four since the restructure of the European Cup. Eusebio Di Francesco's side will know the mammoth task ahead of them but they could cause some issues over two legs.
Barcelona XI: Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Nelson Semedo, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba; Sergi Roberto, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta; Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez.
Roma XI: Alisson; Bruno Peres, Federico Fazio, Kostas Manolas, Aleksandar Kolarov; Lorenzo Pellegrini, Daniele De Rossi, Kevin Strootman; Alessandro Florenzi, Edin Dzeko, Diego Perotti.
Barcelona subs: Jasper Cillessen, Andre Gomes, Ousmane Dembele, Thomas Vermaelen, Paco Alcacer, Denis Suarez, Paulinho.
Roma subs: Lukasz Skorupski, Patrik Schick, Gerson, Stephan El Shaarawy, Maxime Gonalons, Juan Jesus, Gregoire Defrel.
Barcelona make just one change to the side that beat Chelsea 3-0 last time out in Europe, with Semedo coming in for Dembele. Sergi Roberto plays further forward on the right and Busquets is passed fit after entering the game carrying a knock.
Roma make two changes to the side that beat Shakhtar Donetsk last time out, bringing in Bruno Peres and Pellegrini. Radja Nainggolan doesn't make the squad due to injury and Cengiz Under also misses out. Perhaps the most eye catching selection though is Florenzi, playing much further forward to where we're used to watching him play.
Good evening and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League quarter-final first-leg between Barcelona and Roma, where the hosts will be looking to maintain their stellar European form and their Italian opponents will be dreaming of an upset.
Unbeaten in nine consecutive Champions League matches and winning 23 of their past 25 European matches at Camp Nou, drawing the other two, Barcelona are serial features in this stage of the competition. Ernesto Valverde's side have been largely unstoppable this season and come into the game on the back of a thrilling comeback in the league against Sevilla.
HALF TIME! No stoppage time at the end of the first period after what has been a largely quiet half. Roma did fantastically to quell Barcelona for the majority of the match and fell behind in cruel circumstances, as Daniele De Rossi diverted the ball into his own net.
Barcelona have been poor, it has to be said, and haven't really found their stride this evening. Ernesto Valverde will want to see a lot more from his side after the interval but they do hold the lead, which could be crucial over the course of two legs.
Whilst Barcelona have been poor, Roma also deserve credit for a superb tactical set-up that has left their hosts scrapping for chances. The goal was a freak moment and may prove to be a bitter blow for the Italians, although they'll still fancy their chances of they keep the deficit at just a single goal.
FULL-TIME! It's all over at Camp Nou and Barcelona, as many expected, are comfortable winners. However, it didn't all go the way of Ernesto Valverde's side and they had to struggle to find an opening, benefitting from own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas. Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez also capitalised on easy chances, either side of Edin Dzeko's slotted finish for the visitors.
Barcelona were far from their best today but they got their win in the end and now have one foot firmly placed in the semi-finals of the Champions League yet again. There's plenty to work on ahead of the second-leg next week but a 4-1 advantage puts them in complete control.
Roma impressed overall but the stuffing was knocked out of them by the two own goals that gave Barcelona their edge. Lacklustre defending was their downfall in the end, particularly with Luis Suarez's late effort, and it's a massive learning curve for Eusebio Di Francesco's side.
