Southampton are still throwing players forward in search of a goal but Newcastle have got everyone back behind the ball and are defending well, throwing themselves in front of every shot. They would be very happy to take a point from the game.
90' +2
C. Atsu gets yellow.
The first yellow card of the game is shown to Atsu for a foul on Lemina.
Close! Ward-Prowse with an excellent set-piece delivery into the box, which Stephens almost gets onto the end of. The centre-back was just inches away and any touch probably would've turned the ball into the back of the net.
90'
There will be a minimum of five minutes added time played.
88'
Newcastle with a decent opportunity to create something in front of goal. Ritchie whipped a deep cross into the box from a free-kick, which is just about kept in play and Saints manage to clear the ball to the edge of the area. It falls straight to the feet of Yedlin, who fires an ambitious effort at goal, but the ball flies high over the crossbar.
87'
Southampton have back-to-back corners, but Newcastle deal with the balls into the box well and manage to clear the danger. Wasted opportunity.
83'
Decent effort! Ings and Lemina link up well and the latter fires a shot towards goal from 25 yards out, but his shot is always rising and it flies high over the crossbar.
82'
The game is very scrappy at the moment, with both teams struggling to keep the ball as they desperately try to get forward and score what probably would be the winning goal.

Description
76'
Ki Sung-Yueng enters the game and replaces M. Diamé.
Newcastle make their second substitution, Diame appears to have picked up a knock as he limps off the pitch to be replaced by Ki.
75'
It looks like Newcastle will be happy with taking a point from the game. They haven't tested the Saints goal at all today and you just can't see where the goals are going to come from.
71'
As we enter the final 20 minutes of the game, it is still 0-0 at St Mary's with very little goal action at either end. Southampton certainly look the more likely of the two teams to score, but they are lacking a clinical final touch.
69'
S. Rondón enters the game and replaces Ayoze Pérez.
Newcastle make their first change of the game, with Perez replaced by Rondon.
66'
Newcastle have certainly defended well today and have thrown themselves in front of every Saints chance. Diame this time with the block to prevent Cedric's strike from heading towards goal.
65'
Decent effort! We haven't seen as much of Elyounoussi in the second half, but he got on the ball there, cut inside and fired a low effort towards the far post, but it goes wide of Dubravka's goal.
63'
M. Gabbiadini enters the game and replaces C. Austin.
Here is the forced substitution, with Austin coming off and he has been replaced by Gabbiadini.
58'
SAINTS CHANCES! Ings has two efforts at goal well blocked, the second came from some good work by Cedric down the right, he plays a low ball into Ings who turns and fires a shot at goal. However, Fernandez gets across and makes a great block.
56'
Goal disallowed! Southampton have the ball in the back of the net, but Austin is penalised after he jumped with Dubravka deep inside the penalty area. The Newcastle keeper gets a touch to the ball and then goes to ground, before Austin smashes the ball home from a couple of yards out. The referee was quick to blow for a Magpies free-kick.
54'
Surely it won't be too long before we start to see some changes here, both teams need to pick up three points and neither side look close to breaking the deadlock at the moment.
50'
Good chance! Bertrand storms down the left and he finds a lovely pass for Ings but his scuffed shot hits his own team-mate, Austin. The striker was perhaps put off by Austin, as that was a good opportunity.
48'
No changes by either manager at the break. Southampton have still only scored one goal in first half football this season, they went the closest during the first period but couldn't get themselves in front.
46'
The second half is underway!
45' +4
HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 NEWCASTLE
45' +2
Elyounoussi with an ambitious effort from the edge of the penalty area, the winger cuts inside and tries to curl the ball into the top corner of the net. However, the effort is poor and it flies high and wide over the bar.
45'
There will be a minimum of three minutes added time.
44'
There have been far too many misplaced passes by both teams this afternoon, which is slowing the pace of the game as neither team can build any momentum.
42'
A goal before the break would be a huge boost to Southampton and change the team talks for both managers. The Saints are ending the half on top and Newcastle will just be happy to go into half-time with the scoreline level.
38'
Not long left on the clock before the half-time whistle, can either side break the deadlock before the break? A goal would certainly liven the game up, it's lacking pace and quality.
36'
Southampton are getting into some good positions in the Newcastle half, but their crosses into the box have been poor, not giving Austin and Ings much to play off. Lascelles and Fernandez will be quite happy at the moment, they are comfortably dealing with these balls into the area.
32'
Over half an hour played now at St Mary's and the score remains goalless, with very little action in front of goal for either side. Southampton with the best chance early on, but that's about it.
30'
Good chance! Newcastle break forward quickly and Perez lays the ball off to Kenedy inside the penalty area, he cuts back onto his right foot and fires an effort towards goal. However, Cedric gets back and makes a great block to deny the Newcastle winger.
29'
Terrible goal-kick by McCarthy, the ball flies straight out of the play and a few groans ring out around St Mary's. They need to get the ball on the ground and try to string a few passes together, because Newcastle are starting to edge the game now.
25'
Yedlin is the best attacking threat for Newcastle at the moment, with the right-back constantly getting up the pitch and trying to get crosses into the box, linking up well with Ritchie and Shelvey.
22'
Elyounoussi blocks a cross from Yedlin deep down the right, he then tries to allow the ball to roll out of play for a goal-kick, despite it taking a big deflection off him and it's a Newcastle corner! Shocking decision. Let's hope it doesn't come back to haunt him.
19'
It's a very scrappy game, as you might have imagined from two teams who have struggled for goals this season and who sit near the bottom of the table.
17'
There is a lack of quality at the moment, both teams are struggling to keep the ball for prolonged periods and there isn't much pace to the game. Newcastle have certainly managed to withstand the early Saints pressure, much to the frustration of the home supporters.
15'
Newcastle are seeing more of the ball now, but it's all in their own half as Southampton are pressing high up the pitch and not allowing them time and space on the ball.
13'
Southampton with a free-kick a decent position, close to the left touchline and a good opportunity to whip the ball into the penalty area. The ball comes into the box towards Cedric at the near post, but Newcastle manage to read the danger well and clear the ball out for a throw-in.
9'
The travelling supporters are certainly making their voices heard at St Mary's, the Newcastle fans have travelled down South in huge numbers, eager for their side to pick up their first victory of the season.
7'
Decent effort! Austin drills a low effort at goal from the edge of the box, it appears to be going wide of the post but Dubravka wasn't sure, so he got down quickly and made a good save to push the ball around the post.
5'
Saints are certainly on top at the moment, with the visitors barely touching the ball in these opening stages of the game. An early goal would be a huge boost for Mark Hughes' side, it would certainly get the crowd going.
3'
SAINTS CHANCE! Bertrand with a poor effort towards goal, it looks to be heading well wide of the goal but it is drilled straight into the path of Elyounoussi who sprints through on goal. The midfielder beats the offside trap, but he tries to go for goal himself from a very tight angle, rather than squaring the ball to Austin who was completely unmarked in the six-yard box. Dubravka manages to get a hand to the ball and the danger is cleared.
2'
Southampton are enjoying more possession in the opening couple of minutes, making the visitors do all the running in their own half. They are working it nicely in the Newcastle half, looking to carve open an early opportunity.

Bottom of the table Newcastle face Southampton this afternoon still in search of their first win of the season, as the Magpies have just two points after nine games. However, Southampton aren't faring much better, they sit 16th on six points. Both teams will be hoping a victory could kick-start their Premier League campaigns.
The teams are out here at St Mary's and kick-off is just a few minutes away. Stay tuned for all of the match action!
Newcastle haven't tested McCarthy in the Saints goal, the closest they've come to scoring is a blocked Kenedy effort. Perez and Muto have struggled to get involved in the game as the visitors struggled to create anything in the final third. More energy and quality is needed in the second half.
It's goalless at St Mary's between Southampton and Newcastle, in a game that has lacked quality throughout. The Saints have had the better of the chances, Elyounoussi breaking through on goal early on and should've squared the ball to Ings who would've had a tap-in, but instead he went for goal himself and Dubravka made a good stop. Lemina struck the post from close range and Stephens also went close to scoring late on in the half, but they just couldn't make the breakthrough.
That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Southampton remain 16th in the table and without a home victory this season. Next up for them in the league is a trip to to the champions, Manchester City next weekend. Newcastle move off the bottom of the table with a point, but only on goal difference as Huddersfield suffered a heavy defeat today. They return to St James' Park next Saturday, where they will face Watford.
